Axis-5

Critical thinking is the degree to which your mental model has the same shape as the reality you are operating in. Nobody is uniformly good at it, because it is not one skill. Someone who reads a spreadsheet perfectly can still miss a confounder; someone who spots every confounder can still be badly calibrated about risk.

We believe critical thinking is displayed across five unique and non-overlapping dimensions: uncertainty, model awareness, causal reasoning, abstraction control, and trust distribution. Axis-5 is a test that measures these dimensions. In about fifteen minutes it takes to complete it, you'll get a complete baseline assessment of your critical thinking skills across these dimensions.

Most questions have answers that follow from arithmetic or logic rather than opinion, so this is not a personality quiz: you can be wrong, and somewhere you will be. It is also not an intelligence test. Intelligence is largely fixed; these five are trainable, which is why measuring them is worth your time.

Here's what the test will measure precisely:

Uncertainty — whether your confidence tracks how often you are actually right. Model awareness — whether you can see the assumptions and the edges of the frameworks you use. Causal reasoning — whether you can tell which relationships would survive an intervention. Abstraction control — whether your claims stay at the level your evidence supports. Trust distribution — how you weigh sources, and how far your beliefs move when evidence arrives.

What the report tells you

The report produces five charts that show where you stand in each of the five dimensions. Each chart is a coordinate system, showing your percentage-based performance in each dimension, and your position along the extreme axis.

You also get your calibration curve: your average stated confidence against how often you were right.

Hypothetical profile — your results will look different.

Before you start

This test is built for people whose work is mostly decisions. If you are an analyst, manager, engineer, clinician, or a founder — this test is for you.

When you answer the questions, do it without external help — no search, no AI. This is not about fairness. Several questions measure the correspondence between your confidence and your accuracy, so outsourcing a judgment produces a well-calibrated report about somebody else, not you. Using external help would be a waste of your time.

What you will get at the end is an alignment report: how closely your reasoning matches the structure of the situations you are reasoning about.
